I am running for the Minnesota State Senate in District 13 to replace Sen. Michelle Fischbach, who is retiring to become the full-time Lt. Governor. I was first elected to House District 13A in 2012 and was reelected in 2014 and 2016, receiving 66% of the vote in my last election. I served on the Transportation, Public Safety, Job Growth and Civil Law Committees in the Minnesota House. Prior to my election to the legislature, I served on the Rockville City Council.
I have 38 years of military experience and am retired from the Minnesota Army National Guard. My military Career began in the Navy as an Avionics technician aboard the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk with a deployment to the Iranian Hostage Crisis and spanned 38 years including two decorated tours in Iraq. I retired in 2017 as a Lt. Colonel serving as the Deputy Commander, 175 Regional Training Institute, Minnesota Army National Guard.
In addition to my military service, I worked for 27 years in the fire service, serving on three departments in various positions including firefighter, fire marshal, fire and emergency management coordinator and chief, retiring in 2011.
While in the House, I focused on Transportation, Public Safety and Veterans issues and was the chief author of the Fire Retardant Ban which at the time passed was the toughest in the Nation. Another piece of notable legislation was allowing Counties the option to hire private firms to conduct the required annual audits which reduced costs to many County tax payers.
Sheri and I have been married for almost 34 years and have four grown children. District 13 consists of parts of Stearns and Benton Counties in central Minnesota.
